CHICAGO (AP) - A group that works to end cruelty toward animals has received a $100,000 grant.
The Anti-Cruelty Society says it'll use part of the money from the Kentucky-based health benefits company Humana to fund programs in Chicago about responsible pet ownership.
The organization will also start an after-school program for teens focusing on the link between human violence and cruelty to animals. The Humane Society of the United States says around 70% of domestic violence victims report that their abuser also targeted animals.
The $100,000 Chicago Benefits grant was awarded on Aug. 27.
