One woman was honored in Davenport Sunday for her lifelong efforts toward peace. Hildegard Goss-Mayr received this year's Pacem in Terris award at St. Ambrose University.
Born in Austria, Gross-Mayr was dedicated to peace during the Nazi regime and her efforts toward non-violence have inspired others worldwide. She says she is honored and humbled to be among previous award winners like Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King Jr.
"I believe this award should not only go to myself but to all the people with whom I have worked because nonviolence is basically a work you do together," said Goss-Mayr.
Goss-Mayr is the 39th recipient of the Pacem in Terris award which stands for "Peace on Earth."
