Dozens of Bettendorf High School students went door to door today to help their less fortunate neighbors. Students collected bags of canned food as part of their annual event to raise awareness for the Student Food Drive.
Kids and teachers say with the recession in full swing, everyone needs to pitch in to help.
"A lot of different people are in different situations this year that maybe they didn't expect and we're just going to try to help them out in this simple way," says Katie Kinsinger, Student Council Advisor at Bettendorf.
"It's more important now than ever because people really need it so people have to open up their homes and give out what they can," adds BHS Junior Alexa Hackfort.
If you missed Saturday's collection, there's still a chance for you to help out. Donations are being accepted at the school's main office during normal business hours.
