Altoona police drop probe into stabbing, robbery

Associated Press - October 27, 2009 12:44 PM ET

ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) - Altoona police say they have halted their investigation into an alleged stabbing and robbery at a local hotel because a victim has refused to cooperate.

Police say they believe 26-year-old Javier Valdez knows the identity of the people who supposedly attacked him and took cash from an office safe. However, police say he isn't sharing that information.

Altoona Police Chief John Gray says Valdez's explanation of the events surrounding the Sunday robbery of Adventureland Inn lacks credibility, adding the wounds the man suffered were superficial.

Gray would not rule out charges being filed against Valdez.

Cash was stolen from the inn during the alleged robbery, but police and the hotel's owner aren't disclosing the amount.

Spokeswoman Molly Vincent of Adventureland Park, owner of the inn, says Valdez, a 2-year employee, continues to work at the inn.
