CLERMONT, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in Fayette County are investigating a string of break-ins that occurred in Clermont.
Police Chief Arthur Sullivan Jr. said several residents discovered early Saturday that their homes, garages and vehicles had been entered overnight.
According to Sullivan, the break-ins were similar to several that occurred in West Union and other towns in Fayette and surrounding counties. He said the thieves only entered unlocked buildings and vehicles.
Law enforcement officials are encouraging residents to lock doors to homes, vehicles and outbuildings.
Sullivan pointed out small-town America no longer enjoys the isolation from the outside world that it did years ago. He also encouraged residents to report suspicious activity when it occurs.
