In the wake of more H1N1 deaths, it's important to remember that most people recover. A young boy in Davenport is a good example of that.
With probable H1N1 cases at her son's preschool, Kathryn Neal of Davenport took all the precautions when it came to her three kids.
"I did all the preventative things prior, washing hands and watching them around sick people, but my son still caught H1N1," Neal said.
Tristan was the unlucky one. About two weeks ago, the typically active and daring four-year old woke up with a fever, a runny nose and a cough.
"The symptoms are very, very similar between seasonal flu and H1N1," Neal explained of the symptoms she saw.
She admits she did worry though. Neal took Tristan to the doctor as soon as the office opened.
"The doctor basically said right now H1N1 is the flu that's going around. That seasonal flu hasn't hit the area at this point. They checked his temp, his lungs, his heart, his pulse. They checked his eyes, ears nose and everything," Neal said.
The doctor put Tristan on TamiFlu, told his mom he had to stay home and ordered rest for the little guy. Two weeks later all his symptoms are gone and his energy is back. Tristan will go trick or treating Friday night and on Monday it's back to preschool.
The Neal's doctor also put Tristan's little sister on TamiFlu as a precaution. She has a liver deficiency that could make it more difficult for her if she became infected with H1N1. So far she's healthy along with everyone else in the family.
