It is a celebration honoring loved ones who have passed on. The Putnum Museum brought the Mexican holiday known as Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, to life for hundreds of visitors Saturday afternoon.
The display featured altars decorated with pictures and gifts to honor the departed. Including one for activist Cesar Chavez and even a pet altar honoring the souls of lost four-legged friends.
Mexican culture believes on this day it is easier for the souls of the deceased to return.
"This is a yearly event that happens that people actually go to the cemetary and spend the day with their deceased loved one. And I think that that's an hour and tribute to them," said event emcee Norma Nuñez-Kauzlarich
The Day of the Dead coincides with the Catholic holiday All Souls Day, which is celebrated annually on November 2nd.
