Illinois & Iowa Soldiers Shot At Fort Hood

Updated:

A second soldier from Illinois has been identified as a victim of the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas. Relatives say 21-year-old Francheska Velez of Chicago is among the 13 people killed when an Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire.

Her father says Francheska recently returned from deployment in Iraq. She was preparing to come home because she was pregnant.

Earlier, family confirmed that a man from Bolingbrook, also in the Chicago area, died in the massacre at Fort Hood. The parents of 21-year-Private First Class Michael Pearson say he was shot three times and did not survive.

An Iowa soldier, who just arrived at Fort Hood this week, is among the soldiers wounded in the rampage. 27-year old Staff Sergeant Joy Clark is from Des Moines.  Her father, Jerry Nelson, says she was in the readiness center when it happened.  He says a soldier in front of Joy was shot and she took off her jacket to cover the soldier.  That's when she was shot in her left forearm. She's awaiting surgery.
