Federal aviation officials have released their findings, a year after a plane crash involving two University of Dubuque students.
In September, 2008, aviation students Grant Vogt of Dubuque and Cory Alsip of the Chicago area crashed in Cassville, Wisconsin. The National Transportation Safety Board determined that a cabin door on the single engine plane opened while in flight. In its report, it says the student pilot in the right seat tried to hold the door closed while they diverted to an airport, but the door popped open again and the plane crashed.
Vogt died in the hospital from his injuries. Alsip was severely burned. The plane belonged to the University of Dubuque.
