There could soon be a new owner for the Rhythm City Casino. Davenport city leaders are taking a gamble on Las Vegas, taking a trip there they hope will pay off big.
Mayor Bill Gluba says, "We want a different operator. We don't think there's any competition with one operator and two licenses competing against each other."
That is why he's been in Vegas, looking for someone to take over the license now being operated by the Isle of Capri. City leaders say the company has invested in its namesake boat in Bettendorf to the detriment of Davenport. And, they want someone to build the Rhythm Rity bigger.
They opened a booth, did some advance publicity at the Global Gaming Expo, and say it seems to have been worth it. Gluba says, "We made some good contacts. I personally have talked to at least a dozen companies that expressed some interest."
The Davenport delegation comes home Thursday. The Mayor says he, City Manager Craig Malin and Alderman Gene Meeker will compile a list of companies they talked to, send them information and updates about what's happening in the city, and eventually bring them here to see it firsthand. They're hoping for a winning hand.
