Quadruplets born at Des Moines hospital

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 11:24 PM ET

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Polk County couple, Casey and James Dotzler of Bondurant, are the proud parents of quadruplets, the first born at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines since 1999.

The four babies were born Wednesday within a minute of each other. The girls, Emme and Sophie were born first, weighing in at 2 pounds, 10 ounces apiece. Then came the boys, Brady weighing in at 2 pounds 12 ounces and Max, the big guy of the group, coming in at 3 pounds, 7 ounces.

As with many multiple births, the Dotzler babies were premature. Doctors say the quads are expected to remain in the hospital until their original due date, which is late January.
