Associated Press - November 28, 2009 2:34 PM ET

SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a 37-year-old suburban Chicago man shot two people, 1 of them fatally, before turning the gun on himself as police closed in.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says Paul Gunn of Markham died Friday at an area hospital.

Police pulled Gunn over in Markham after he was identified as a suspect in the shooting of his ex-wife and her friend. Police say he shot himself as officers approached.

His ex-wife, 43-year-old Rhonda Mabry, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot at her Sauk Village home. Her friend, 43-year-old Robert Allen, of Carthage, Miss., died at an Indiana hospital.

Police say two children, including Gunn and Mabry's 5-year-old son, were home during the shooting. They weren't injured.
