SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A woman who robbed a central Illinois bank of nearly $7,000 last spring with her husband's help is headed to federal prison for nearly five years.
Thirty-7-year-old Skipper Giardina of Virden was sentenced Monday in Springfield.
Giardina pleaded guilty in August. Her 37-year-old husband, Dale Giardina, pleaded guilty the next month to aiding and abetting his wife in the holdup. He's to be sentenced Feb. 8.
Authorities say Skipper Giardina used a handgun at a bank in the Sangamon County village of Divernon on March 27 to force tellers to fill a bag with money. The woman also claimed a PVC-style pipe with wires, batteries and a circuit board was a bomb.
The device was later determined not to be a bomb.
