Family Escapes House Fire In Carbon Cliff

Updated:

Crews are still investigating what caused a house fire in Carbon Cliff, but they are calling a new response system a success.

The flames broke out just after 9:00 Thursday night in the 16,000 block of 10th Avenue. Two people were inside at the time, but they both got out safely and called 9-1-1.

It was the first house fire in which a new alert system was used.  Full Still Alarm incorporates the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, which allowed dispatchers to contact all fire departments in neighboring communities with just one call.

Firefighters got the flames knocked down quickly, but their job was made more difficult because of a downed power line and icy conditions outside.

The fire left extensive damage to the back of the house around the kitchen area. The American Red Cross is helping the homeowner with emergency needs.
