CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - A teenager charged in the death of a 3-year-old Charles City girl will be tried as an adult on first-degree murder charges.

Floyd County District Judge Gregg Rosenbladt issued the ruling in the case of 14-year-old Edgar Concepcion Jr. of Charles City.

In addition to murder, Concepcion is charged with first-degree sexual abuse in the death of Krystel Banes.

In July, a 9-1-1 caller said the girl had fallen at the home of a neighbor family who were baby-sitting her.

An autopsy revealed that Krystel died of asphyxiation, and her death was ruled a homicide.
