While police are still searching for suspects in the deaths of a Clinton woman and her 2-year-old son, family, friends and others in the community are searching for answers.
There is still a lot of sorrow for all who knew Angel Herman and her son Cyrus. The two were found dead in a burning apartment early Wednesday morning. Saturday night the family and hundreds of others gathered for a candlelight vigil outside that apartment where they lost their lives in hope of find some peace.
"I don't know anybody who would want to hurt her or the baby," said Lindsay Carman, friend of Angel's.
The Clinton community is still shaken up from the loss of Angel and her son Cyrus. Two days after learning their deaths were no accident, and not having a clue as to what happened, loved ones could only come together in grief. "It helps me to see all her friends and family here to support her," said Angel's mother, Lucinda Jamieson-Herman.
Hundreds gathered outside the door of her apartment with candles in hand, casting a glow upon images of mother and son. Friends, family, even complete strangers said a prayer and looked to each other for comfort in a tragedy that is beyond comprehension. "As you can see everybody loved her. Look," said Jamieson-Herman.
All who knew Angel are still in disbelief that anyone could hurt her and her son. Many say she had not an enemy in the world. "My daughter was beautiful, my grandson was wonderful," said Max Herman, Angel's father. "She would have given you the last quarter out of her pocket," added Jamieson-Herman.
One by one, each person laid their candles near the door and gave the only thing left to give to Angel and Cyrus: their love and promise to never forget, and never give up hope in finding answers.
"I'm going to go home and do like most people do when they lose their kids. Cry," said Herman.
"It won't be closure until it's done and over with and everybody has got their justice," said Carman.
Angel's mother says she has been in contact with Clinton police and investigators daily, hoping to learn any new information and hoping that anyone who knows anything will come forward.
Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, but are now saying it is a criminal homicide investigation. No word yet on what started the fire or how the two died, but police say after an autopsy this became a homicide investigation. They say they need your help to find the person responsible and are asking anyone with any information about the deaths of this mother and son to call the Clinton Police Department or Clinton County Crimestoppers.
