A real life story of a Grinch this holiday season. Someone broke into a group of Scott County storage garages overnight on Christmas and stole thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment. It happened at the Jordan Storage facility near Blue Grass, sometime in the middle of the night. Dozens of units were broken into and even more items stolen from renters.
Jerricho Call rents a couple of units at Jordan Storage. He is in the snow removal business, and when he went to pick up his equipment at around 5 o'clock Saturday morning he found someone had already been there and gone.
"Early in the a.m. I arrived and found the chain that locks the gates in the front cut and my door had been busted open to the units that I rent to run my business and several pieces of my equipment and tools were gone," said Call.
Call says that, and a couple of big items, like new snow blowers, add up to probably $10,000 worth of equipment gone. It was the same story for dozens more tenants at the storage facility. There is more than 80 units on the property. Call says every one of them appeared as if someone attempted to break into it.
He found footprints leading all around the storage facility, many locks that were cut, and doors that look like someone tried to wedge them open. Call says this wasn't just a theft, this was a clear case of vandalism. Several boats and motor homes on the property have ripped screens or broken windows.
Call says besides losing many of his possessions, the worst part about this is, "The holidays. My situation personally, and the fact that you feel very violated because somebody came into your personal beings and decided to do what they wanted with them."
The landlord at Jordan Storage say he is trying to contact all tenants, many whom are out of town or state, and asking them for an inventory of items to see what is missing. But at this point it is hard to estimate exactly how much was taken.
