Illinois has almost $2 billion in unclaimed money and property and the chance that some of it's yours may be greater than you think. As part of a program called Cash Dash the Illinois Treasurer's office was at Moline City Hall Friday helping people look for long, lost cash that many didn't know they had.
More than 10 million residents and businesses have unclaimed property in Illinois. More than $9 million dollars in unclaimed assets belongs to people in Rock Island County. The sources can be from insurance, land, old bank accounts, and usually are a surprise.
"I had three items and they totaled almost $2,500. I'm so happy I came here it was exciting," said East Moline resident Margo Angell.
"Everybody is really excited about it. Everybody can use a little extra cash especially with the economy being what it is right now," said Steve Klokkenga with the Illinois Treasurer's office.
To see if you have any unclaimed money or property in Illinois, it's as easy as a name search on the Illinois Treasurer's web site.
