Some young Quad City swimmers learned what it takes to go for the gold from two Olympians who know all about that.
Gold medalists Aaron Peirsol and Josh Davis were in the pool at Augustana College Saturday afternoon and more than 60 young swimmers dove in with them. It was part of the Breakout! Swim Clinic. The kids got to ask questions, swim laps and work on their technique. The swimmers hoped to pick up some gold medal-winning tips, but the Olympians want the kids to know it's about more than winning.
"It's really kind of cool because you get to learn from an Olympic swimmer who learned from a coach like you," said 11-year-old Alexis Kontos.
"They definitely emphasize the streamline which is not my strong point and maybe a faster flip turn," said 13-year-old Haley Zapolski
"It's good to get back here and have these kids understand where we came from and let these kids know what to expect and where to go from here," said Aaron Peirsol.
Peirsol says he and Davis are training for an international meet this summer and looking ahead to the 2012 Olympic Games.
