Davenport Suspect In Sword Assault


A Chicago man is fighting for his life after being struck with a sword-like weapon outside a downtown Davenport restaurant at 114 East 3rd Street early Tuesday morning.

Police say just before 2:00 a.m., 26 year old Ricky Johnson was reportedly drunk and got into a confrontation with 36 year old Willie James Terrell of Davenport. Police say the two men starting fighting and then Terrell grabbed a sword-like weapon from his vehicle and struck the unarmed victim.

Police say Johnson has severe injuries to his arms and torso. He is being treated at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Terrell is being held in the Scott County Jail on a charge of Willful Injury.
