MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - A former Illinois resident accused of trying to arrange sexual liaisons with 13- and 14-year-old girls via e-mail has been released from a Nevada jail after posting $25,000 cash bail.
Benjamin Schuler of Gardnerville was released from the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Schuler also is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl through her clothing. Prosecutors say the crimes occurred in January and February.
School district officials say Schuler wad paid a stipend to coach basketball at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School for three years. He was coach of the boys eighth-grade team and girls seventh-grade team until his contract expired at the end of the season.
Schuler had been a volunteer boys basketball and girls softball coach in Illinois at Collinsville High School during the 2006-2007 school year. Athletic Director Chris Kusnerick said Thursday there were no allegations of wrongdoing against Schuler at the school.
