Associated Press - March 6, 2010 8:14 PM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified four Chicago women killed when the car they were in slammed into a tree.

The medical examiner's office says the women are: 28-year-old Latoya Cathina, 25-year-old Toccara Jones, 28-year-old Alicia Landon and 35-year-old Jacquelon Hampton.

Authorities say their car was traveling at a high speed when it hit the tree about 2 a.m. Saturday.

3 of the women were reported dead within an hour after the accident, and the driver died later from her injuries. A fifth person was in critical condition at an area hospital.

Debris and car parts littered the area near the scene after the accident, including a tire that ended up about 100 feet from the car.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
