Giant Census form hits Chicago's Daley Plaza

Associated Press - March 18, 2010 4:14 AM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - The Census Bureau is blowing its 2010 form way out of proportion.

And visitors to Chicago's Daley Plaza can see the proof this week.

The Census Bureau has set up an oversized 2010 Census Form in the plaza to raise awareness about the count effort.

Several of the 20-foot-high inflatable replicas are touring cities across the country. Paper census forms have started arriving in mailboxes across the country.

Officials say the 2010 form, with its 10 questions, is 1 of the shortest in history.

The census is used to determine how congressional districts are drawn and how $400 billion in federal funds are distributed.

The questionnaires ask about race, age, gender and the number of people living in each household.
