Gambling Trends In IA & IL

Updated:

Iowa's casinos are taking a hit from the recession. The state says casino revenue has dropped for the first time since 1993.

State regulators say revenue fell by 3.5 percent for the fiscal year ending June 30th. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission Chairman says it's a sign the economy is taking a toll and that the state may be close to hitting the saturation point.

Iowa has 17 casinos. In the Quad City area, they are located in Davenport, Bettendorf, Clinton, Dubuque and Burlington.

Meanwhile, Illinois is seeing a different trend when it comes to the state lottery. Illinois reported Tuesday that it had its highest-ever single year of sales, recording more than $2.2 billion over the last fiscal year. Lottery officials say the addition of Powerball and a push to reach new customers helped increase ticket sales, which rose by 5.4 percent.

The lottery transferred $625 million to Illinois public schools and another $32 million for new capital projects.
