Bob Evans Closes Plant In Galva

One of the major employers in Galva, Illinois has closed. Bob Evans announced that its plant is shut down, effective immediately. About seventy workers lost their jobs.

The company broke the news to employees Monday morning. The last day of production was on Friday. The company says it had too much space and not enough sows to continue production in Galva. Bob Evans was in Galva for about 36 years.

The plant produced sausage links and rolls of sausages.

Galva Mayor Tom Hartman says the city did offer the company some incentives to stay in town and keep the plant open. Hartman says it did not seem like the company wanted to discuss anything.

Mayor Hartman says he will assemble a task force to help former workers with unemployment assistance and job training assistance. Hartman also intends to talk to Bob Evans to find out what their plans are for the facility.
