Registered Sex Offender Cluster In Davenport

Twelve registered sex offenders are living at a mobile home park in Davenport.  In Iowa, these offenders are not allowed to live within two thousand feet of a school or registered daycare facility.

Authorities say the mobile home park is one of the few places in Scott County where registered sex offenders can live and be in compliance with the two thousand foot law.

Some law enforcement personnel are pushing for changes. Detective Pete Bawden of the Scott County Sheriff's Department says changes in the law would give registered sex offenders more opportunities to find a place to live and landlords who would rent to them.

Bawden says right now, some offenders hop from state to state, trying to live in a community where the laws are less restrictive.

There are about three hundred registered sex offenders living in Scott County.
