No trains could cross the historic Crescent Bridge Wednesday because of a train derailment. According to police, around 8:45 Tuesday night, one of the train cars broke through the bridge deck, but stayed on the bridge that goes over the Mississippi River between Rock Island and Davenport.

Firefighters from Rock Island responded to the scene, but there were no spills and no hazardous materials at the site.

Now, it's up the railroad to get the cars off the bridge and figure out what went wrong. The side of the locomotive says Canadian Pacific, but the bridge is owned by the Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe Railroad.

It's not the first time is has happened. Back in September of 2009, a South Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad freight train was stuck on the Crescent Bridge after three cars jumped the track while crossing the river. In that case, barge traffic was stopped until crews could clear the cars.
