Savanna, Illinois Businesses Prepare For Flood

In Savanna, Illinois,  business owners are taking the necessary precautions with the threat of a major spring flood looming. The record flood in Savanna was in 1965 when the Mississippi River crested at almost 25 feet.

Some business owners  on the west side of the city are moving items to higher ground. Duane Kistler owns a hardware store in town. Tim James runs a woodworking shop. Both men are taking the necessary steps to protect their businesses from the threat of a major flood.

The city sewage treatment plant could also be at risk. City officials are stockpiling thousands of sandbags. Those sandbags will be used to protect the plant.

Public works crews will also check storm sewer gates to make sure they are in working order.
