CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A Chicago victory and a Toronto loss Wednesday night will give the Bulls the third seed in the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs. The Bulls play their final regular season game at Charlotte while Toronto visits the New York Knicks. Chicago has won eight of its last nine games. They'll face Brooklyn or Washington to begin the playoffs.
NEW YORK (AP) - The Chicago Cubs play a pair of games in the Bronx Wednesday because of Tuesday night's rainout. Jason Hammel of the Cubs faces Masahiro Tanaka (mah-sah-HEER'-oh tuh-NAH'-kuh) of the Yankees in the afternoon game. The pitching matchup for the night game will be Travis Wood for the Cubs and Michael Pineda (pih-NAY'-duh) for New York.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals go for their first series sweep of the season Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee. A Cardinals victory will move them into a tie with the Brewers for the National League Central division lead. Joe Kelly will pitch for the Cardinals against Wily Peralta (WIH'-lee peh-RAHL'-tah) of Milwaukee.
CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago White Sox have won four of their last five games and begin the day in a tie for the lead of the American League Central Division. They host the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series. John Danks will pitch for the White Sox and Boston will send Clay Buchholz (BUHK'-ohlts) to the mound.
