Two Galesburg teenagers were in jail Thursday night, accused of shooting a man during an armed robbery.

Police say the two 17-year olds, Tyrone C. Haywood and Devonte P. Parker, went armed with a gun to rob 22-year-old Jordan Allen who was sitting in his car.

Police say it happened outside the Economy Apartments in the 1500 block of Monmouth Boulevard in Galesburg before 5:45 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say the initial call was for a traffic crash but when officers arrived they found much more.

They located the owner of the vehicle inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say Parker is the boy who pulled the trigger.  Galesburg Police Captain Rodney Riggs says Parker and the victim are neighbors in the apartment building.

"Generally, crimes like this, they know each other.  The people involved maybe know each other.  It's not a random act of violence," said Riggs.

Investigators combed the parking lot for evidence Thursday.

Galesburg police say the shooting victim, 22-year-old Jordan Allen was sitting in his car outside his apartment when Haywood and Parker robbed him.

"When they arrived they found a car that had been abandoned, that had been involved in a collision in the lot," said Riggs.  "Upon finding the owner of the vehicle, inside the apartment house, they found he had a gunshot wound."

This is the second shooting in two weeks in Galesburg.

21-year-old Jemelle Ware was shot and killed in Kiwanis Park last week.

Riggs says the two shootings are not related.

"I believe people are safe.  I know that's the common thread right now that people are safe but they are.  Absolutely."
