Sales Of Snow blowers, Shovels "Good" Despite No Snow

Updated:

"I wouldn't think you'd be selling too many snow blowers at this time. 'You wouldn't think so but we've actually sold quite a few for having no snow," was an exchange Tuesday morning between shopper Jim Fugate and a K&K Hardware employee.

It's a conversation they've heard a lot of recently.

Fugate says even though there is no snow on the ground yet, he's looking to buy a new snow blower to be prepared.

"I don't want to wait," said Fugate.  "I want to have it before the first big snowfall."

Which forecasters say could still be weeks away.

Still, K&K Hardware in Bettendorf is selling snow blowers, shovels, and ice melt to consumers like Fugate who are planning ahead.

"The fact that it's not snowing, of course has made things a little slower," said Larry Smith, Lawn and Garden manager.  "There was a pretty good surge early in the season because people remembered last year and the big snows we had."

Smith says because of that shoppers wasted no time this year.

"Most of our snow blowers, a lot of them went early.  A lot of our manufacturers are actually out so what we've got on hand is going to be it for the season," said Smith.

"It's not a question of if it's going to snow, but when."
