Fire broke out at the historic lodge on Credit Island in Davenport, Iowa, Thursday morning, May 2, 2013.

After reviewing the KWQC-TV6 Skycam footage, smoke could be seen around 7:35 a.m.

The Davenport Fire Department responded to the scene just after 8:00 a.m., finding the roof engulfed in flames with only one hydrant to connect hoses to.

According to Chief Lynn Washburn, firefighters were forced to pump water from the Mississippi River. Washburn was concerned with the amount of debris in the water, but said they had no other option.

"We're certainly concerned about the debris and sludge that is going to get into the pumps of our apparatus. That's why we're going to be sure that all of our apparatus have a good maintenance going through when we get done with this to make sure all of that is cleaned out of there. All of the hoses as well."

The building was also still surrounded by flood protection barriers, making it difficult for firefighters to reach the flames.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
