UPDATE: I-80 East bound has both lanes open. I-80 West bound has the left lane open and the right lane closed for continued clean-up.

Traffic control will remain on scene through the clean-up of the side of the road.

UPDATE: Illinois I-80 has been closed in both directions between mile markers 27 and 33.

According to witnesses at the scene,  the semi-truck was traveling westbound in the left lane, crossed to the right lane, continued through the right shoulder and rolled in the north ditch.

Officials say a "small chemical spill occurred from the tanker."

Hazardous Material teams are at the scene for clean-up but police say there is no immediate public health risk due to the spill.

I-80 is currently shut down between Atkinson and Annawan. All traffic is being diverted to US 6.

Police strongly recommended local traffic to find alternate routes, as delays are expected for the foreseeable future.

Authorities say the shut-down of Interstate 80 is anticipated to continue through most of Thursday.
