There is news that is sending shockwaves through the Quad City community. Isabel Bloom has announced the concrete statues so many of you collect will no longer be made in the Quad Cities.
Production is moving to China. This move means 50 production and casting workers will be out of a job come June.
Collectors are extremely upset these statues these little faces have been a product of this area for more than a generation and now, they will no longer be made locally with Mississippi mud. Johanne Meyer is a collector who's so upset she will no longer buy Isabel Blooms. “This little bear was a gift from my daughter.”
Johanne Meyer talks about her collection of Isabel blooms. Thirty seven statues, each one has its own story. “My angels here are a gift from my husband and i have all the Christmas angels. The larger statues are the cancer ones. My husband had cancer 3 years ago.” Some of Johanne's statues go back 25 years. They're from her children, grandchildren, in-laws, friends, “they're very special I love each one of them.”
Johanne hoped to expand her collection, but after finding out Isabel Bloom was outsourcing to China, Johanne says the statues stop here. “I am so disappointed. I won't buy them anymore. That's the first thing my husband said when we heard it. He said that was the end of the angels.” The end of the angels and Johanne says the end of an icon. “Isabel bloom was a well known lady. She was loved in Davenport and the Quad Cities and I think this takes away from her and ruins her reputation and Isabel Bloom's reputation.”
