Rock Valley Physical Therapy offers aquatic therapy in conjunction with local fitness centers. The new state-of-the-art aquatic pool is beneficial for a variety of patients and offers therapeutically warm water of varying depths and handicapped accessibility. Individuals with orthopedic dysfunction, arthritis, and those recovering from injury or surgery are prime candidates for aquatic therapy. Studies have demonstrated that the buoyant support of the water effectively reduces approximately 90% of the weight of a person submerged to the neck.
This considerably decreases compression stress on weight-bearing joints, muscles, and bones.
Individuals concerned with excess pressure on their back, hips, knees, and ankles can now increase their strength, flexibility, and endurance. Aquatic therapy can significantly reduce pain and increase function.
Initially, a complete evaluation of the patient is performed, on land, by one of our orthopedic physical therapists. Goals are then mutually established and addressed through the one-on-one, water-based therapy sessions. After discharge from aquatic therapy, the patient may continue an independent water exercise program through the fitness center at an affordable monthly charge.
The therapists at Rock Valley Physical Therapy are dedicated to returning our patients to healthy and active lifestyles. Aquatic therapy is our newest commitment to health care and meeting the needs of our patients.
