The First Alert Forecast from Meteorologist Greg Dutra
A WINTER STORM WARNING continues through early Wednesday for our entire viewing area.
Snowfall has continued its steady pace for much of the viewing area with the exception of a couple of our southern most counties. The arrival of a dry slot of air has created a horseshoe type appearance of the radar map, leaving much of the viewing area within the leading edge of snow, and allowing some of the southern counties to slip into the drier inside area. This lull in the snowfall off to the south (south of Henderson/Des Moines counties) could last long enough to see some filtered sunshine, but as upper level low pressure moves closer to the viewing area, the snow will start back up. The heaviest snows have shifted from the QC north/northeast and will bring an additional 2-3 inches there, and up to 2" south and southwest of the QC. Winds become the primary focus this afternoon, with our snow light enough to easily take flight in 15-25mph winds. Visibility outside of the metro areas will be less than 1/4 of a mile at some times, and will hamper snow removal. Things calm down by Wednesday as sunshine and colder air streams into the viewing area.
TODAY: Cloudy with continued snowfall. Winds increasing sharply during the afternoon. High: 25°. Wind E to N 15-25+ mph.
TONIGHT: Cloudy and windy with snow ending. Snow totals of 4"-7" for most of the area. Low 12°. N 15-30 mph.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. High 20°.
