Search Continues for Missing Clinton Man

Updated:

Clinton, IA -- 19-year-old Benjamin Roseland was hanging out at a friend's house when Clinton Police say he left to grab some food from Hy-Vee.

But he never made it there and hasn't been heard from since.

Last week, a search party organized by Ben's co-workers found a pair of his shoes on the south side of Clinton giving his family a faint glimmer of hope. Those shoes are the only sign of Ben since February 9th. They say there's been no activity on his credit cards, his cell phone, and no contact with his family.

Now, they're asking their neighbors for help. Ben's family has organized another search party for him, meeting at the Clinton Hy-Vee at 11:00 Saturday morning. They're hoping another search of the area where he was last seen will provide them with some answers.

"We're all getting really devastated about this. We really want to find him," says his Aunt Bonnie Kalina

"We've got a lot of people involved but nothing is coming up," says his mother, Theresa Roseland.

It's been a community wide effort involving the Clinton community, the police, and Ben's extended family all coming out to try and find him.

"You're hoping somebody out there has been looking for you to tell you something," Kalina says.

"We've had three or four searches and nothing's been found beside those shoes," Theresa Roseland adds.

Those shoes were found two blocks apart fifteen minutes after the search party began last Saturday. At the time, Ben's mom said the shoes were her son's. However, some family members say they don't look like they've been there since Ben disappeared.

"It just seems like the shoes were planted there. Why would he be down there? He doesn't even run in that area of town," says Ben's Aunt Marge Nance. "If those shoes were there for three weeks, they should've had dirt on them, they should have had snow but they were laying deliberately on top of the snow right where we could find them."

Clinton Police say they've talked with the Roselands but right now they have no new information on the case.

Ben's family says they're going to spend tomorrow the same way they've spent much of the last few days, putting up posters of Ben and combing the south side of Clinton in search of some answers.

"It's very scary. You really want to find him okay but you just don't know where he is," Theresa Roseland says.

"It's unlike Ben to do anything like this," Nance adds.

"You just hope for the best until you know for sure," his sister, Audra Roseland says.

Ben is 5'11" and weighs 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. If you see him or have any information about where he might be, call the Clinton Police Department at (563) 243-1458
