DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - FRIDAY
5 p.m. Al and Bret of The Candymakers at Great River Brewery
I’m starting my #ACQC Friday with Al and Bret at 5 p.m. I won’t lie, I’ve seen The Candymakers perform countless times. The band itself is always incredible and high energy. Bret Dale and Alan Sweet are good friends of mine and they played at my wedding ceremony. Both are extremely talented musicians and if you’ve never heard Al sing or Bret play guitar, you’re missing out.
6 p.m. Dinner break at Mac’s Tavern to see some of RIPE’s performance.
The show starts at about 6:30. From what I’ve heard online, the lead singer has a great voice and the band incorporates a lot of instruments.
7 p.m. Liz Cooper & the Stampede at Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel
I love this intimate venue and I’ve seen bands here before. I listened to Liz Cooper & the Stampede online. There’s a female singer playing guitar, a bass player, and a drummer. The singer’s voice is beautiful and unique.
8 p.m. Mo Carter at Kilkenny’s Pub
Mo Carter is a friend to many in the Quad Cities but she’s also a talented musician. I’ve seen her perform and I wouldn’t want to miss it this weekend.
9:30 p.m. Quad Cities Showcase at Me & Billy
Seeing live comedy in the area would be a first for me. It should be a fun and unique experience. Me & Billy is a great local business that's been in operation for a few years but I’ve never seen any kind of performance there, music or otherwise. If you’ve never been, you should also ask to take a peek at the menu!
10:30 p.m. Mutt followed by Calliope Musicals at the Redstone Room
I’ve never heard of either of these bands but I’ve been to the Redstone Room and it’s a beautiful venue to listen to live music. I previewed both bands online and I think they’ll gain a lot of new fans in the QCA.
Note: There are several films playing throughout the day at both the Redstone Room and the Figge. I plan on choosing one depending on when I leave work on Friday. This is a cool initiative for our area and it also gets people to experience local venues in a different way.
SATURDAY: PART 1
10:00 a.m. Bends & Brews Yoga with Clarissa Thompson
This seems like the perfect way to start my #ACQC Saturday. Clarissa Thompson is a yoga expert and very passionate about what she does.
11:30 a.m. The Merchants at the RME Courtyard
I’ve never heard of this band but since I’ll be at the RME Courtyard after yoga, why not stay for a few songs?
12:30 p.m. Al & Bret at The Current
I’m such a fan of these local musicians that I’m seeing them perform Friday and Saturday. You should, too! This is also the perfect time to check-out Davenport’s new, modern hotel The Current with a fun sky bar. I hear the food is great so I’ll be having lunch here, too.
2:00 p.m. Chrash at Front Street Brewery
I don’t know much about this band except that they’re from Rock Island. I definitely have some time to support local music and a local business like Front Street. Most likely, I’ll head home afterward to change and get ready for the rest of the night.
SATURDAY: PART 2
5:00 p.m. Adriel Denae and Cory Chisel at Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel
These musicians have songs alone and together. They’re actually partners in music and life. They have a son together. Either way, their voices are beautiful and I can’t wait to see them perform at an intimate venue.
7:30 p.m. Ben Folds with Julien Baker at the Adler Theatre
Like many people, my Ben Folds knowledge comes from his time as frontman of Ben Folds Five. With that said, he’s had a strong career since then and continues to keep a solid fan base. I’m also looking forward to seeing my first show at the Adler Theatre.
Post Show: More music, comedy, and movies
I might be ready for bed at this point. If not, I’ll head back to Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel for more music. A band called Youth starts at 10 followed by Chelsea Lankes at 11. I haven't heard either of them but Sean Moeller can be trusted to pick the best bands for his audience.
There’s a comedy showcase at Barrel House at 10:30 which could be a fun way to close out the night, too.
Also, there’s a horror movie showing at Kilkenny’s Pub and a “B Movie Extravaganza” at Triple Crown.
Note: The Figge has a secret film headliner at 7 p.m. Saturday. I’m intrigued by that. If I hadn’t planned on heading to Ben Folds, this Figge showing would be on my list.
