DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — Some area high school students get on the job training. This summer apprenticeship program gives kids an opportunity to turn rags into riches.
Teens making the cut. Using cardboard, plastic and other recyclables to design and make a twenty panel mural. It will be wrapped in fabric and painted. Dragons are included in the design.
Steve Banks is the lead artist for this program associated with Quad City Arts. The program is four sessions a week for five weeks. Each student gets paid five hundred dollars. The young apprentices are from a six county area.
The mural is a work in progress. It is based on the children’s book: “Do Not Bring Your Dragon To The Library”. The theme is about dragons and library etiquette. When completed, the mural will be placed at the main branch of the Davenport Public Library. It is scheduled to be installed July 14th.
Young artists. Students thinking out of the box. Soon, there will be dragons in the library!
