MUSCATINE COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC) — Four hundred thirty five acres. Once a depleted quarry, now a destination point in Muscatine County. Deep Lakes Park is becoming quite the place for people who enjoy the great outdoors.
The W. G. Block Company gifted the property to the county in 2012. The county has turned it into an outdoor paradise. Swimmers enjoy the public beach, and fishermen cast their cares upon the water. Much of the ground is excess sand from the gravel pits.
Curt Weiss from Muscatine County Conservation says the water is very clear. All natural. Several of the ponds and lakes possibly were stocked naturally, before Muscatine had a levee system. It’s also a great location for people who like boating.
Admission to the park is free. Soon, a hiking-biking trail will be part of the property. It should open by Autumn.
From gravel to gift! Deep Lakes Park is a gem!
