QUAD CITIES (KWQC) — It is organ club day at Karen Schmidt’s home in Moline. Every two weeks, eighty year old Karen and three of her friends gather to make music. They play the organ.
The club has been meeting for seventeen years. Among the other members are ninety five year old Esther Westbrook, Ninety one year old Vey Booth, and the only man in the group, Ninety nine year old Charles Bellinger. The combined ages total three hundred sixty five.
Charles does not read music. He plays by ear. It’s a living room filled with music, song, and sometimes dance. These inspiring seniors say music keeps them young. Each person has their own organ, and the club changes locations for just about every meeting.
Age is just a state of mind. These seniors have lots of get up and go.
Delightful. Talented. Friendly. The Organ Club knows that without music, life would “B” flat!
