UPDATE: Clinton man cited in accident

STERLING, Ill. (KWQC) - UPDATE: Sterling Police have released more information about a rollover accident along Emerson Road Friday morning.

Police say that at approximately 7:35 am, they were called to Farm and Fleet at 3913 East Lincolnway in Sterling for a report of retail theft. By the time they arrived, the suspects had fled, but police were given a description of the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day in Clinton, Iowa.

Police soon located the vehicle when it was involved in a rollover accident on Emerson Road near Deets Road. Sterling Police officers assisted the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office in locating the three occupants of the vehicle who had fled the scene on foot after the accident. Police eventually located the suspects in a wooded area with help from the Whiteside county Sheriff's Department K9 team.

The suspects have been identified and charged as follows:

--Dustin J. Taylor, 25, of Iowa, for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, felony retail theft, and an outstanding Whiteside County warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle
--Tristin W. Byam, 19, of Iowa, for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and felony retail theft
--A male juvenile, 17, of Iowa, for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and felony retail theft

Taylor and Byam have been transported to the Whiteside County Jail in lieu of bond. The juvenile was taken to Mary Davis.

Sterling Police were assisted by the Illinois State Police, the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, and the Rock Falls Police Department.

ORIGINAL: The Illinois State Police are investigating a crash on Emerson Road and Deets Road on Friday morning.

Officers say it was a single vehicle crash at 7:45 AM. The driver, Tristin W. Byam, 19, from Clinton Iowa was cited for driving while license suspended and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The investigation reveals Byam was driving westbound on Emerson Road when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

Two passengers in the vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Byam is out on bond.
