Dubuque police chase hits speeds over 100 mph - UPDATE

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWQC) – UPDATE: 36-year-old Jason Schumacher of Dubuque is under arrest and is being charged with two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, eluding, interference with official acts, reckless driving and several traffic citations.

Schumacher has been released from the hospital and is now being held in the Dubuque County Jail and is awaiting court.

ORIGINAL: One person is in custody after a police chase in Dubuque Thursday.

According to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the Super 20 Mobile Home Park around 3:00 pm.

The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, exiting the trailer park before headed east on North Cascade Road. The vehicle then traveled Whitetop Road to Military Road and then on to Key West Drive before losing control on Rockdale Road and crashing into a service shed owned by CenturyLink. The shed is near Leonard Funeral Home.

Officers say speeds exceeded 100 mph during the chase.

When the vehicle crash, the driver ran away. The driver was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. A passenger was transported to Mercy ER and is being detained for questioning.

Investigators say charges are pending and the accident remains under investigation by the Dubuque Police Department.
