KWQC places in local broadcast awards

(KWQC and AP) - Saturday was a busy day for broadcast news stations across Iowa and Illinois. Award ceremonies for excellence in broadcast news reporting were held in both Iowa and Illinois, and stations from the Quad Cities were able to submit to both.

Here's how KWQC placed in the Illinois APBA Broadcast Contest out of 34 broadcasters and 261 submitted entries:

Best Sports Report: 1, Joey Donia, KWQC-TV, Davenport, "Rio, Ready for the Olympics"

Best Light Feature: 1, Mike Ortiz, KWQC-TV, Davenport, "The Ambassador of Gaines St."; 2, Gary Metivier and Matt Reed, KWQC-TV, Davenport, "Dex the Superfan."

Best Hard News Feature: 2, James Stratton and Mike Ortiz, KWQC-TV, Davenport, "Miracle From McCabe's."

Best Videography: 1, Fran Riley and Randy Biery, KWQC-TV, Davenport, "Full Service Gas Station"

Best Newswriter: 1, Gary Metivier, KWQC-TV, Davenport
