Macomb police arrest a Kewanee man in shots fired investigation

MACOMB, Ill. (KWQC) – The Macomb Police Department arrested a Kewanee man accused of firing off his gun during a fight.

According to police around 3:45 am on Sunday morning officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of Adams Street. Police say a large fight broke out shortly before officers arrived on the scene. Investigators believe someone fired four shots into the air during the fight. Several suspects were detained and interviewed before being released.

Officers say their investigation led them to 23-year-old Jequann Johnson of Kewanee, Illinois. He was arrested without incident on Monday. Johnson is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated discharge of a weapon. He was transported to the Henry County Jail.

A second person, 20-year-old Ashton Powers of Kewanee is charged with possession of a look-alike substance with intent to distribute.

Police believe more arrests are possible.

The Macomb Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Kewanee Police Department, Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, McDonough County Sherriff’s Office, and the Galesburg Police Department.
