QUAD CITIES (KWQC) - UPDATE: Due to field conditions, the Burlington Bees' Opening Day celebration and game was postponed until Friday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Spring has arrived which means rain, warmer temperatures and baseball season.
The three local minor baseball teams in the QCA have worked months to prepare for Opening Day. The Quad Cities River Bandits, the Burlington Bees and the Clinton LumberKings all have their first home game the week of April 3.
The Bees will be up to bat first. Their game is set for Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. against the Peoria Chiefs.
Burlington's stadium will feature two new pavilion areas for fans to enjoy. General Manager for the Bees, Chuck Brockett, told TV-6 they will also be holding some pre-game concerts and a barbecue eating contest this season.
The River Bandits will also step-up to the plate for the first time during the 2017 season on April 6. The team will battle it out on Opening Day against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 p.m.
Some changes have been made around Modern Woodmen Park including extended netting to cover almost all the seating at the ballpark and three new ticket windows. In addition, new LED energy-saving lights are set to be installed next month.
Fans will also get to enjoy some new cuisine. River Bandits' GM Andrew Chesser, said this season they have a new barbecue cart called "Smokies" and a new popcorn stand known as "Big Papi."
As for the Bandits beloved Ferris Wheel and additional rides, most of those won't open up until May. But the staff is hopeful the weather will be good enough to open the Ferris Wheel on Friday, April 7.
The Clinton LumberKings will start the season off on the road in a three-game series with the Kane County Cougars. The final game of the series will mark Opening Day in Clinton. This third game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at Ashford University Field.
The LumberKings' staff said the most major change at the ballpark is the addition of an entirely new cuisine. Mexican food will now be served at Ashford University Field..
Clinton is also giving their fans a deal on the new food. If the LumberKings' First Baseman, Kristian Brito, hits a home run at Ashford University Field, fans will get half-off a burrito.
