FAIRDALE, Ill (KWQC)– Saturday April 9, will mark one year since an EF-4 tornado hit the town of Fairdale, Illinois.
Two people perished in the storm, Geradine Schultz and Jacklyn Klosa, they were neighbors and friends.
28 homes suffered major damage, 19 more were flattened to their foundation.
In the days after the storm, volunteers poured it. After that, it was clear that Fairdale would not receive any federal or state money. It simply did not meet the monetary damage threshold.
So, they put together a non profit organization, The DeKalb County Long Term Recovery Corporation handled all of the $1.4 million dollars that was donated.
Those who live there cleaned up and came back.
Now, slowly, they’re rebuilding the town they love.
