Woman airlifted after being hit by car in Preston

PRESTON, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A woman was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after being hit by a car.

Police were called to an accident on October 17 at 45th Street in Preston at 4:43 p.m.

Ingwer Carstensen was backing out of his driveway when Dorothy Carstensen was crossing the road.

Ingwer Carstensen didn't see the pedestrian and hit her, knocking her to the ground and backing over her.

Ingwer Carstensen continued driving East on 45th Street until he was notified of the accident by a bystander who stopped to check on the pedestrian.

The car and pedestrian were moved before authorities arrived on scene.

Dorothy Carstensen was flown by EMS Air to the University of Iowa.
