No charges for driver in fatal Bettendorf pedestrian accident-UPDATED

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) - UPDATE: Police say the driver will not be charged in the fatal pedestrian accident that happened Friday night, March 17, 2017. Investigators determined the driver did nothing wrong and was unable to avoid the accident.

ORIGINAL: A woman is injured after an accident late Friday night in Bettendorf, March 17th. At about 9 p.m.

Scott Emergency Communication Center received a report of a single vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Officers on scene found a 38-year-old woman had been hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Middle Road near the intersection with 29th Street.

The woman was initially taken to Genesis East in Davenport. She was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City and her condition is not known at this time.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured during the accident. Officials say the incident remains under investigation by the Bettendorf Police Department.

UPDATE: Police have released more information about the pedestrian's condition and identity.

Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospitals at approximately 12:03 am.

She has been identified as Jessica A. Soteco, 38, of Bettendorf.
