CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say some burglars apparently had an ambitious plan to break into a North Side jewelry shop by way of a hair salon next door, but all they got for their efforts were some bottles of shampoo.
Officers say the burglars broke into a shop called Dilshad's Hair Design in the West Rogers Park neighborhood Monday night, and then tried to break through the brick wall separating it from N.P. Jewelers.
But the hole they made was only 2 of 3 inches across at the time an alarm went off and forced them to flee.
And jeweler Peter Chandani says that even if they had gotten in, it wouldn't have done them much good. All the jewelry, he says, is stored in heavy locked safes.
